Kensington Education Foundation Telethon

The Telethon is the first fundraising effort by the Kensington Education Foundation (KEF) to help provide the students at our school with a well rounded school program.  Unfortunately, the school district is unable to provide all the programs and support that should encompass a great elementary education.  KEF makes a significant contribution to filling in these gaps, and that is why it is important that the families at Kensington Hilltop Elementary School contribute to the KEF telethon.

What are the programs supported by KEF?
• Science Laboratory           • Art Program
• Computer Laboratory         • School Library support
• Vocal Music         • Classroom materials & supplies
• Royal Reader Program         • Math Assistance Program
(new this year)
• Ocean Week (returning this year)   • Help with teacher supplies

This year KEF expects to spend over $210,000 on these programs, with your support.

How the Telethon Works.
Shortly, pledge cards will be sent home with every student asking for a tax-deductible contribution of $250 or more for each child attending the school (about $1.38 per school day or 69 cents/day). Installment payment options are available, as well as credit card payments.  If you can afford to contribute more, please do.  If your budget is tight, and we do understand it is for many families, please contribute what you can. Last year we had contributions from $5 to $2,500.

We feel it is important that everyone try to contribute something, anything, so that we all can help make our school great.

Also, please check with your Human Resources Department as many employers offer matching gift programs for which KEF qualifies.

We are fortunate to have many caring people who are working hard to make this year a good one.  Keep an eye out for further information in the Thursday packets.  We look forward to your help!

On behalf of the kids, KEF thanks you in advance for your generosity!

The donor form will be coming home in the Thursday packet the week of September 10th. If you didn't get it or may have lost it, you may download it here: Telethon2007.pdf

Painless Ways to Raise Money for Our School

Here are great ways to help raise money for the Kensington Education Foundation that are simple:

• Register your credit cards with E-Scrip and School Pop. Go to www.escrip.com and www.schoolpop.com and register your credit cards designating the Kensington Education Foundation as beneficiary. Then when you use these credit cards at the participating merchants, (including Target, Andronico’s, Safeway, Macy’s, and Land’s End) the merchant will contribute a percentage of your purchase to KEF. If you have children attending different schools, you can designate each and the merchant contribution will be divided among the schools.

• Save your General Mills cereal box tops and Campbell’s soup labels and deposit them in designated canisters in the school office and library.

• Buy Peet’s Cards from our school if you are a Peet’s customer.  Contact amy.kurzer@ prurealty.com for details.

These are all small things but when we all do them, we can raise a significant amount of money to help fund all of the KEF’s incredible enrichment programs which include art, science lab, and computer lab to name just a few.

Thank you Rubicon!
The Cake Walk, a Kensington Carnival tradition, one of the students most popular booths, wouldn't have been possible this year without the donation of cakes from Rubicon Bakery. County health regulations prohibited home-baked items and Rubicon saved the tradition by donating 4 dozen cakes to the event. Rubicon is a non-profit bakery in Richmond, transforming the lives of the people it employs, enhancing the lives of its customers with premium handcrafted desserts. www.rubiconbakery.com/
