Letter from Lewis Brower, WCCUSD • August 24. 2005

To All,

Progress Meeting #61 was undertaken on an informal basis so as not to take time and focus off the first day of the new school year and first day of operations at the new school. While Gary could not attend and Romer was committed at Harding, Les was at Kensington along with Frank, Thieu and Lew.

Essentially, the meeting was very informal and primarily provided an opportunity for Les, Frank and Lew to address various issues. Les will also visit Kensington on Thursday morning to meet with Frank and Lew, and hold a phone conference with Gary.

No formal Minutes will be issued this week; an overview of Project Status is as follows:

1.   Asphalt surface was placed for the Staff Parking lot (the east side of Building A3 possibly Friday, most likely Saturday) to include the partial frontage at the walkway of the New Building (north of A3, and wrapping around to the canopy walkway between A3 & A4). Stripping will  is scheduled to accomplished  on Saturday, 8/27/05.

2.    Also accomplished over this past weekend:

a.     A seal coat was applied on the Kindergarten playground and the area between Buildings A2 & A3
  b.    A tack coat and asphalt overlay was applied to the Library Access Road
  c.    Installation of the remaining various handrails and windscreens commenced
  d.    The exteriors of the Child Care Modular Units were painted
  e.    Various electrical issues were addressed

3.    On-going work over this week:

  a.    Handrail/windscreen installation will continue for several more days
  b.    The 1st and 2nd floor lobbies and stairwell of the new building is now receiving the finish stucco coat - this work should be complete Thursday.
  c.    Painting of the canopies between Buildings A3 & A4 is underway and the Painters will move on to the remaining handrails and windscreens as well as the new building lobbies
  d.    The Electricians should complete troubleshooting of the Public Address system and it should be in service today. They maintain a full time presence as they address some remaining issues and punchlist work
  e.    Carpenters & Laborers are maintaining a full time presence to perform site clean-up/debris removal and punchlist work.
  f.    A Landscape crew is installing the plantings and start-up of the irrigation system - this will continue over the next couple of weeks
  g.    The playground structure, benches and athletic equipment will be installed as items are received.
  h.    All Kitchen Equipment has not as yet been received - cold pack sandwich meals are being held and dispensed through the equipment now installed

4.     Reasonable expectation is that all remaining construction contract work, including most change order work, will be completed around the middle of September. This includes the new building lobbies/elevator, all playgrounds, landscaping, irrigation and exterior improvements. We anticipate most finish punchlist work will also be complete by mid September; however, punchlist inspections by the Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering Consultants still need to be performed.

5. SBC continues installation and troubleshooting to establish telephone and computer services.
